Laser Hair Removal FAQ

  2. How does a laser remove hair?
  3. Is laser treatment painful?
  4. How many treatments will I need?
  5. What should I expect after a laser session?
  6. How do I know if I am a good candidate for laser treatment?
  7. Can laser hair removal be performed on men?

  1. What can I expect?

The length of a laser session may be a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size of the area being treated. Because the laser tends to treat hair follicles that are in an active growth phase, more than one treatment may be required to disable hair follicles that subsequently enter this growth phase.

Laser treatment itself may cause a slight discomfort. Most patients tolerate the procedure well. But because some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, topical anesthesia is always available.

The appearance of the treated area immediately after a laser session will vary from patient to patient depending on the extent of treatment and skin type. Immediate after-effects, if any, are minor. They may include redness and swelling, which disappear in a short time. Most people return to normal activity right away. We will be happy to tell you more about your treatment and what you can expect during your consultation.

  1. How does a laser remove hair?

The laser emits a gentle beam of light that passes harmlessly though the skin, to the hair follicle, where it is absorbed. Upon absorption, the laser energy is transformed into heat, which can disable the follicle.

  1. Is laser treatment painful?

Most patients describe the treatment of series of slight pin pricks to the skin. The majority of patients tolerate this sensation without a problem. However, we can apply a topical anesthetic to numb the area before treatment.
Laser Hair Removal FAQ | Top

  1. How many treatments will I need?

Your hair grows in cycles. The laser only affects hair when it is in its early growth phase. In fact, the laser will only disable follicles that are actively producing hair at the time of treatment. At any time, some follicles are dormant. REPEATED sessions will be necessary to treat these follicles whey they re-enter the growth phase. Approximately 3-7 treatments at 6 week intervals will be needed depending on your skin type.

  1. What should I expect after a laser session?

After-effects vary from patient to patient. Typically, within several minutes, the treated area may become slightly red and puffy. This reaction subsides quickly, usually within a day. Since our laser system does not cut the skin in any way, you can return to normal activity immediately.
